As a Shift Lead Engineer within SSE Renewables, you’ll be responsible for leading a shift team of Control Engineers and Technicians, carrying out real-time operational control and asset intervention management of our High Voltage & Low Voltage Electrical Plant & Apparatus, including our GB and Ireland fleet of Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery assets.
Reporting to Onshore Control Centre leadership, you will be the front line decision maker for management of safety, asset integrity, and commercial performance in real time, from our Control Centre in Perth, Scotland.
You will
- Lead a multi role shift team (as part of a 24/7/367 rota) to ensure all real-time responsibilities are effectively carried out, whilst maintaining core competencies to enable you to directly contribute to all workstreams.
- Manage SSE’s operational Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Storage assets and associated electrical networks, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Contributing also to commissioning operations and handover of such assets to operational phase.
- Ensure commercial performance can be optimised by maximising the availability of our assets - controlling planned and unplanned outages including timely return to service of assets.
- Lead the response and co-ordination of operational incidents to resolution, ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with regulations, procedures and contractual obligations, and to ensure suitable management of significant SHE incidents by enacting duties of Emergency Commander, including response, co-ordination, notification, and escalation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes to meet control point obligations & maintain a balanced network, and to maximise accuracy of dynamic asset information to comply with regulations and mitigate revenue loss through route to market.
You have
- Minimum HND level qualification in an engineering discipline with relatable experience of electro-mechanical generating plant/apparatus and/or electricity distribution/transmission industries.
- Strong knowledge of industry wide codes, standards and safety rules such as grid codes, electrical high voltage rules and safe systems of work, having held operational authorisations.
- Experience in control room and/or operational environment as an effective leader and communicator.
- Ability to solve complex problems under pressure, adapt to changing workloads positively without compromising key responsibilities.
- High level of motivation, strong desire for accountability, and a genuine passion for the industry
